Worldwide strawberry production on the rise

Strawberry production both fresh & processed is on the rise. Consumer preference for healthier eating habbits, along with a growing consumer base in emerging markets is driving the growth. The per capita strawberry consumption is very different per region: US consumers consume 3,6 kg per year, European consumers are at 1,6 kg and in emerging markets consumption stands at only 2,6 grams, which means opportunities for growth there.

The top 5 strawberry producing countries in the world are the US, Mexico, Turkey, Spain & Egypt. They sell 70% of their produce to the fresh market and the rest to the processing industry.
